Ho Tzu Nyen
Artiste
Ho Tzu Nyen (né et réside à Singapour) travaille à la croisée de l’animation, la vidéo, la performance et l’installation. Il s’approprie et revisite des mythes pour interroger la façon dont nous appréhendons la réalité et l’histoire.
Une grande partie de son travail est en lien avec Singapour, ancienne colonie britannique, aujourd’hui cité-État multiculturel. Ho intègre également dans sa pratique des mythologies d’autres cultures d’Asie de l’Est et du Sud-Est.
« Je ne sais pas encore quelle est la prochaine étape de ma pratique artistique, mais je suis impatient de m’y plonger, à la lumière des possibilités offertes par le prix, » a-t-il déclaré.
Ho a représenté Singapour lors de la 54e Biennale de Venise. Son travail a été exposé au Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, au Japon (2021), au Yamaguchi Centre for Arts and Media, au Japon (2021), au Kunstverein de Hambourg, en Allemagne (2018), au Musée Guggenheim de Bilbao, en Espagne (2015) et au Mori Art Museum de Tokyo (2012).
Une rétrospective intitulée Ho Tzu Nyen : Time & the Tiger (Le Temps et le Tigre) retraçant son œuvre sur deux décennies, a été inaugurée au Singapore Art Museum en 2023. Cette exposition sera ensuite accueillie par le Art Sonje Center de Séoul, puis par le Hessel Museum of Art de New York, et enfin par le Mudam Contemporary Art Museum de Luxembourg en 2025. Une exposition solo, intitulée A for Agents (A comme Agents), ouvrira ses portes au Museum of Contemporary Art de Tokyo en avril 2024.
