  • CHANEL SUPPORTS “ARCO” BY UGO BIENVENU

    Presented in a Special Screening at the 78th Cannes Film Festival and supported by CHANEL, "Arco" is the first animated feature film by director Ugo Bienvenu. "Arco" tells the story of a child from the year 2932 who accidentally travels back in time to 2075.
    Entirely hand-drawn in 2D animation, and featuring the voice of friend of the House Alma Jodorowsky, "Arco" combines artisanal craftsmanship and technological innovation.
    « Arco" is the first animated feature film to be supported by CHANEL, illustrating the House’s commitment to support the preservation and transmission of creation.

  • CHANEL SUPPORTS “NOUVELLE VAGUE” BY RICHARD LINKLATER

    Supported by CHANEL and selected for the Official Competition during the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, “Nouvelle Vague”, the latest film by director Richard Linklater recreates the atmosphere on the set of Jean-Luc Godard’s film “Breathless”, the founding film of the French Nouvelle Vague and landmark in the history of cinema.
    Reaffirming its close ties with cinema, the House is proud to have created a series of silhouettes for the characters of Jean Seberg, played by actress and friend of the House Zoey Deutch, and Juliette Gréco, played by Alix Benezech. Zoey Deutch wears a bustier dress recreated from the Spring-Summer 1956 Haute Couture collection imagined by Gabrielle Chanel. CHANEL also provided accessories, Jewellery pieces and makeup for the actresses.

COSTUME CREATION

CHANEL supports ”Jeanne du Barry”

CHANEL is a partner of the film “Jeanne du Barry”, directed by Maïwenn, which opened the 76th Cannes Film Festival. CHANEL has accompanied the production of this film, notably through six costumes specially designed by the House and loans of CHANEL High Jewellery. The House and the film's costume designer, Jürgen Doering, have revisited pieces from the CHANEL collections, modernising the sumptuous spirit of 18th century dresses.

  • CHANEL supports ”Priscilla”

    Supported by CHANEL and presented at the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival, Sofia Coppola's latest feature film tells the story of Priscilla Presley, the woman who once shared Elvis Presley's life. In this biopic, Sofia Coppola depicts their relationship and tells the story of Priscilla's passage into adulthood, her quest for identity and independence.

    On this occasion, loyal friend of the House Sofia Coppola asked CHANEL to create the wedding dress in the scene of her wedding, reinterpreting the one Priscilla actually wore on her wedding day. This embroidered gown is inspired by the spirit of CHANEL's Spring-Summer 2020 Haute Couture collection and created within the Haute Couture and Métiers d'art ateliers.

    Actor and House ambassador Tilda Swinton stepped out on the red carpet to present George Miller’s film, “Three Thousand Years of Longing”, in which she plays one of the leading roles.

    In this episode live from the Cannes Film Festival, Tilda Swinton evokes the strong storytelling of George Miller’s films and the links between CHANEL and cinema.

In keeping with its commitment to cinematic creation, CHANEL is proud to announce the launch of the CHANEL & CINEMA – TOKYO LIGHTS mentorship programme. Under the stewardship of movie director and friend of the House Hirokazu Koreeda, a major figure in international cinema awarded multiple times in the world’s most acclaimed festivals, this unique programme aims to support the emergence of a new generation of Japanese directors.

IN CONVERSATION WITH WIM WENDERS

CHANEL is honoured to be supporting the restoration of "Paris, Texas", a film directed by Wim Wenders for which he won the Palme d'Or in 1984. This support adheres to CHANEL's commitment to disseminating masterpieces of world cinema to as many people as possible. It demonstrates the House's commitment to preserving works that have marked the history of the seventh art.

The restored version of Paris, Texas has been premiered in the Cannes Classics category of the 77 th Cannes Film Festival, celebrating the 40 th anniversary of its Palme d’Or. On this occasion, Wim Wenders reflects on the genesis of this major work and evokes his relationship to time, "the essential material of what we do in cinema".

    In keeping with its commitment to cinematic creation, CHANEL supports "Maria", a film by Jessica Palud which has been presented at the Cannes Première selection on this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival starring actress and House ambassador Anamaria Vartolomei in the leading role. The House has loaned certain costumes that contribute to the overall 1970s atmosphere of the film.

    Presented during the 77 th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the film “Megalopolis”, written, directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, and in which actress and friend of the House Nathalie Emmanuel plays one of the leading roles, is competing in the Official Selection.

    CHANEL and the Coppola family have long been connected through friendship and creativity.     The film “Little Girl Blue”, directed by Mona Achache and of which CHANEL is the exclusive partner, was presented in a Special Screening during the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. From her grandmother to her mother, via herself and her children, the director puts into perspective the destinies of women in order to understand what connects them.

    On this occasion, Mona Achache and Marion Cotillard reflect on the genesis of the film and open up about their approach of the main character, played on screen by the actress and House ambassador.

  • Lubna Playoust in conversation with Albert Serra and Rosalie Varda

    The documentary "Chambre 999", directed by Lubna Playoust and of which CHANEL is the exclusive partner, was presented in the Cannes Classics section at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

    On this occasion, Lubna Playoust, accompanied by Albert Serra and friend of the House and producer of the film Rosalie Varda, questions the definition of cinema and its relationship with time. Together, they also evoke the close ties between CHANEL and cinema.

    Actress and House ambassador Tilda Swinton presented “The Eternal Daughter” by Joanna Hogg during the 79th edition of the Venice International Film Festival, in which she plays one of the leading roles.

    In this episode, Tilda Swinton is joined by Carly-Sophia Davies, the actress she shares the bill with. Together, they mention how they developed their characters with the director and what it means to be accompanied by CHANEL throughout the festival.

    Actress and House ambassador Penélope Cruz stepped out on the red carpet to present “L’immensità” directed by Emanuele Crialese and “En los márgenes” directed by Juan Diego Botto during the 79th edition of the Venice International Film Festival, in which she plays leading roles.

Embodying CHANEL’s deep connection to the world of cinema and its great actresses, Kristen Stewart has a close and unique relationship with the House. A former jury member of the Cannes Film Festival and a CHANEL ambassador since 2013, she served as the International Jury President during the 73th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival. On this occasion, she was wearing CHANEL looks on the red carpet. During the event, Kristen Stewart opened up about her experience as International Jury President and was joined by actress Golshifteh Farahani, a member of the International Jury.

    For the seventh consecutive year, CHANEL is the official partner of the César Révélations event. This partnership is an opportunity for CHANEL to reaffirm its special relationship with cinema and to support the emergence of the young talents of today and tomorrow. This year, the thirty-two Révélations are brought together in a short film directed by photographer Malick Bodian.

    For the sixth consecutive year, CHANEL is the official partner of the César Révélations event. This partnership is an opportunity for CHANEL to reaffirm its special relationship with cinema and to support the emergence of the young talents of today and tomorrow.

    This year, the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma and CHANEL called on Audrey Diwan to highlight the thirty-two Révélations in a short film. Audrey Diwan directed the film "L'Événement", nominated for the César for Best Film, Best Direction and Best Adaptation.
