EPISODE 5
MELIPONA ENZYMATIC HONEY
FROM COSTA RICA
”We have identified melipona enzymatic honey, which has been used in centuries-old tradition for generations.”
—Alix Toribio, CHANEL Innovation and Production Manager of Natural Raw Materials
The melipona bee, one of the smallest in the world, produces a rare and precious honey. At the open-sky laboratory in Costa Rica, CHANEL Research harvests very limited quantities of melipona enzymatic honey, in partnership with Alianza Campesina Flora Nueva, the local company that oversees the apiary. From hive to jar, this powerful ingredient is at the heart of the advanced LE LIFT PRO skincare line.

AN OPEN-SKY LABORATORY IN COSTA RICA
In Costa Rica, CHANEL has developed an exclusive and traceable supply chain in partnership with Alianza Campesina Flora Nueva. Melipona enzymatic honey made by melipona bees is harvested with the utmost respect for biodiversity: Only the excess honey is collected and no hives are harmed. Within the open-sky laboratory, innovative hives called meliponario are custom-built for the bees.

FROM HIVE TO JAR
The tiny melipona bees lack a stinger and are only found in tropical regions. The surplus of the honey they produce is harvested once per year during the spring in extremely small quantities: between 10.1 oz. and 84.5 oz. per hive per year.
Highly concentrated in amino acids, melipona enzymatic honey has unique biological properties that help reinforce skin’s support.

A RARE, PRECIOUS INGREDIENT
CHANEL Research studied melipona enzymatic honey for 3 years. Thanks to a microfiltration process, the fortifying properties of this precious ingredient are preserved and concentrated in the new LE LIFT PRO formulas.
