THEATER DIRECTOR Marie Schleef
Marie Schleef (born in Goettingen, Berlin-based) is a theatre director exploring and asserting the too-often missing female gaze, challenging male dominated theatre conventions. Emphasising and clarifying structural grievances, her performative texts integrate precisely researched facts in a kind of “stream of (un)consciousness,” helping to create an interactive archive. She is constantly expanding her online project #womenwhoshouldnotbeforgotten, which deals with both the narratives of forgotten women as well as little-known aspects and curiosities surrounding the female experience. Her most recent work “NAME HER. In Search of Women+” is a 7½-hour multimedia performance-lecture exploring the lack of women’s representation throughout history and plunges into gender discourse around naming, its power and its stigmas.
