CHANEL is honoured to be supporting the restoration of "Paris, Texas", a film directed by Wim Wenders for which he won the Palme d'Or in 1984. This support adheres to CHANEL's commitment to disseminating masterpieces of world cinema to as many people as possible. It demonstrates the House's commitment to preserving works that have marked the history of the seventh art.

The restored version of Paris, Texas has been premiered in the Cannes Classics category of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, celebrating the 40th anniversary of its Palme d’Or. On this occasion, Wim Wenders reflects on the genesis of this major work and evokes his relationship to time, "the essential material of what we do in cinema".

In keeping with its commitment to cinematic creation, CHANEL supports "Maria", a film by Jessica Palud which has been presented at the Cannes Première selection on this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival starring actress and House ambassador Anamaria Vartolomei in the leading role. The House has loaned certain costumes that contribute to the overall 1970s atmosphere of the film.

Inspired by the life of Maria Schneider, this film is a loose adaptation of Vanessa Schneider's novel "Tu t'appelais Maria Schneider", which tells the story of the actress and her tragic fate. "Maria" sketches the trajectory of a woman and an artist who goes through a trauma and seeks to recover.

On this occasion, Anamaria Vartolomei and Jessica Palud talk about the way Maria Schneider remains an inspiring figure for actresses today and evoke their collaboration with CHANEL on the film.

WITH CHRISTOPHE HONORÉ
CANNES 2024

In keeping with its commitment to film creation, CHANEL supports Christophe Honoré's film "Marcello Mio", which has been selected for the Official Competition at this year’s edition of the Cannes Film Festival. CHANEL has accompanied the production of the film, namely through costumes specially designed by the House in collaboration with costume designer Pascaline Chavanne for actress Catherine Deneuve.

The film’s screenplay, with its mischievous mix of the real and the fake, brings to life a gallery of imaginary characters who have the same first names as the prestigious actors who play them: Chiara Mastroianni is Chiara, Catherine Deneuve is Catherine. For his fourteen full-length feature film, the director has chosen to tell the story of Chiara, embodied by Chiara Mastroianni, who decides to revive her father, the Italian actor Marcello Mastroianni, through herself.

On this occasion, Christophe Honoré and Catherine Deneuve talk about their collaboration, the importance of costumes to get into a role and the boundary between reality and fiction.

Presented during the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, the film “Megalopolis”, written, directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, and in which actress and friend of the House Nathalie Emmanuel plays one of the leading roles, is competing in the Official Selection.

For this longtime project, the director drew inspiration from the story of the conjuration of Catilina, published in 43 BC by Roman historian Sallustius. The film explores universal themes such as power and corruption, transposed to the near future.

CHANEL and the Coppola family have long been connected through friendship and creativity. CHANEL is proud to be associated with the premiere of the film as well as the soirée following the ascent of the red-carpeted steps. On this occasion, Francis Ford Coppola and Nathalie Emmanuel reflect on the power of the collective and their emotion as they presented the film in Cannes.
