Spring-Summer 2010 Pre-Collection
In 2004, a collaboration with New York architect Peter Marino brought about an astounding ten level Chanel structure in the heart of Ginza. Today, the boutique offers a retrospective of Chanel's Haute Couture creations - pieces by Karl Lagerfeld and Coco Chanel, outfits worn by N°5 ambassadresses, wedding gowns and high jewelry pieces. One by one, they reveal the evolution of the skills and particular refinement of the Parisian artisans.
Inspired by the set of the Fall-Winter 2009/10 Haute Couture show, five bottles of Chanel N°5 perfume guide the way through the exhibition.
Until December 27th in the Ginza district of Tokyo.
Shanghai, Huangpu River, December 3rd, 2009. The set of the show: the Pudong skyline. “We cannot rebuild it so we made a boat with a set where you can see Shanghai. It’s a black crystal box with a view on Shanghai.” explains Karl Lagerfeld.
As a prelude, Karl Lagerfeld's film. Screens disappear and reveal a panoramic view of the Pudong skyscrapers.
Karl Lagerfeld revisits the Eastern Empire: “China has always been present in art, decoration, statues, Coromandel screens. The French have always liked Chinese art and all that side of the world has been really inspiring for decoration in Europe since the 17th and 18th century.”
The collection brings together the expert skill of the Parisian artisans and the Chanel ateliers: “The strength of the collection results from its refinement. You need to have a close look and almost feel the fabric to understand how it was made and to appreciate the know how.” Karl Lagerfeld.
Among the 800 guests: Vanessa Paradis, Zhou Xun, young actresses from the Asian scene and Chanel ambassadress Anna Mouglalis.
