A NEW YORK INSPIRATION

‘New York, it’s an energy and a melting pot of cultures, it’s very stimulating.’ — Karl Lagerfeld

The artistic director of the House also gives a nod to the streets of New York in the collection: a denim aviator jacket with tone-on-tone patches and matching trousers is paired with a graffiti printed top.

THE EMBROIDERED DRESS
BY MONTEX

In a play of layering, an intricate bejewelled piece of embroidery by Montex is worn over a long white dress, recalling the silhouettes of Ancient Egypt.

THE TEMPLE OF DENDUR:
MÉTIERS D'ART SHOW SETTING

Karl Lagerfeld chose the sandstone Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art as the setting for the Métiers d'art 2018/19 show. Commissioned during the reign of the Roman emperor Augustus Caesar around 10 B.C, the Temple is today one of the most recognizable symbols of ancient Egypt. Gifted to the United States in 1965 in recognition of the country’s support of the UNESCO  International Campaign to Save the Monuments of Nubia, and awarded to The Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1967, the Temple continues to inspire all who see it.
