SUMMER POP UP BOUTIQUE
IN SAINT-TROPEZ

Saint-Tropez on the French Riviera encapsulates the Mediterranean lifestyle. And it's here in this village that CHANEL has, every year for the last nine years, opened its pop-up boutique. For the duration of the summer, a new decor is created at the mansion 'La Mistralée', located between the Old Port and the Place des Lices. This season, the interior is a blend of rough and raw ornamentation and geometrical design, echoing the Hamburg docks that inspired the 2017/18 Métiers d'art collection. Metal walls with circular openings like portholes showcase the CHANEL designs. The space extends to a pool house by a shady garden with palm trees and cacti.

VILLA NOAILLES
BY KARL LAGERFELD

Located in the hills rising above Hyères in the South of France, Villa Noailles is a hub for artistic encounters. Designed by the modernist architect Robert Mallet-Stevens between 1924 and 1932, this cubist building is forever imbued with the spirit of the artists who visited the house or lived there, from Buñuel to Man Ray, Dalí, and Cocteau. Karl Lagerfeld devoted a series of photographs to the villa, inspired by its avant-garde architecture.

Overlooking the bay of Hyères, the home of art patrons Marie-Laure and Charles De Noailles has a freely designed layout providing new and unusual viewpoints. Conceived as an artists' residence, it fosters a blend of culture and leisure, reflecting a new way of living. From the 1930s, the De Noailles brought together figures from the worlds of art, fashion, design and literature under its roof. It's a tradition that endures to this day courtesy of the Hyères Festival.

THE HYÈRES FESTIVAL
SUPPORTING YOUNG ARTISTS
AND DESIGNERS

Founded in 1985, the International Festival of Fashion, Fashion Accessories and Photography in Hyères celebrates young fashion creators. The 33rd edition of the festival, in partnership with CHANEL, gives emerging winning designers the opportunity to work on a collection with the Métiers d'art, reflecting their distinct know-how.

Their experimental and often unexpected collections are showcased at the Villa Noailles. The avant-garde setting of the villa provides the backdrop to inter-disciplinary encounters and dialogues. Here, fashion can interact with design, sculpture, architecture, photography and music. Over a culture-filled weekend, the festival fosters creative collaborations between the fashion crowd, designers and photographers.

IN THE ATELIERS OF
MAISON MICHEL AND MONTEX
WITH MARINA CHEDEL

CHANEL, a Hyères Festival partner, has invited the winner of the 2017 Fashion Accessories prize Marina Chedel to develop a part of her new collection in collaboration with CHANEL's Métiers d'art, Maison Michel and Montex.

Inspired by the sea and its waves, the collection plays out in shades of blue. Embellished with ribbons, twists and a patchwork of wool and yarn, the young designer's offering is imbued with the unique craftsmanship of the artisans she encountered. "I was intrigued by their savoir-faire. The embroidery at Montex is very contemporary and architectural. And the work at Maison Michel is precise and majestic, it's been a crazy opportunity learning alongside such talents."
