A HOUSE FULL OF LUXURY: AN APARTMENT-STYLE BOUTIQUE AT THE PENINSULA HOTEL

Chanel has opened a new boutique in Shanghai. The store, which covers an area of 480 m2, has been designed by New York architect Peter Marino. Its intimate interior design gives the feel of a private apartment, with different rooms each with their own warm, relaxing ambiance, where works of art and furniture inspired by the Coco Chanel style are elegantly displayed alongside clothing, accessories and jewelry. “We wanted to create a showroom in which customers can take a seat in one of our comfortable sofa-style armchairs and be treated to the very best in customer service”, explains the architect.

The plastron, making of an emblematic piece of the collection

"I love the idea of Venice, but in this collection I combined several genres that have influenced the history of Venice. For example, I used the Renaissance, with its colours and paintings." Karl Lagerfeld, May 2009.

Karl Lagerfeld has taken pleasure in revisiting the influences of the Renaissance for Cruise 2010, in particular those that contributed to the art of jewellery - an art that fascinated Gabrielle Chanel several decades earlier. She was, in the early 1920s, the first designer to offer costume jewellery in her store on 31 rue Cambon, in order to set off the simplicity of the clothing that she was designing.
