KARL LAGERFELD, COMMANDER OF THE LEGION OF HONOR

French President Nicolas Sarkozy presented the insignia of the Commander of the Legion of Honor to Karl Lagerfeld at the Palais de l'Elysée in Paris on June 3rd 2010.

Karl Lagerfeld's collaborators combined their efforts to make an exceptional, one of a kind medal, created in the Chanel Fine Jewelry ateliers with the Paris Mint.

The pink gold enameled medal is decorated with white quartz stones and set with diamonds, and was presented in a shagreen case created in Chanel's leathergoods ateliers.

Chanel hosted a dinner in honor of Karl Lagerfeld and Vanessa Paradis on Tuesday, May 18 in Cannes, together with Canal+ and Madame Figaro.
It was the occasion to celebrate the special issue of the Madame Figaro with Vanessa as the editor in chief. The magazine also featured Karl Lagerfeld’s photographs of the actress.

Vanessa Paradis who is also the ambassadress for Chanel Fashion, was accompanied by Johnny Depp as she met Karl Lagerfeld for the dinner with a hundred or so guests.

Surprise guest Patti Smith gave moving acoustic performances of her legendary music for Vanessa Paradis and the other guests, including Cannes Film Festival jury chairman Tim Burton, as well as jury members Kate Beckinsale and Emmanuel Carrère.
Other celebrities present included actors Pascal Greggory, Vincent Cassel, Gaspar Ulliel, directors Atom Egoyan, Olivier Dahan, and Olivier Assayas, and actresses Emmanuelle Béart, Emmanuelle Devos, Roxane Mesquida, and Dree Hemingway.

The scene changed around 1:30 AM when Vanessa Paradis, Johnny Depp, Karl Lagerfeld, and guests entered the VIP Room for an open-air viewing of Karl Lagerfeld’s short movie "Remember Now," which was filmed in Saint-Tropez for the Cruise collection show.
