BROGUES BY MASSARO

The artisans at Massaro make CHANEL shoes to the highest standards of production. Last makers, clickers, closers and finishers work together in the shoemaker's ateliers to create CHANEL footwear.

The shoes by Massaro in the Paris-Hamburg collection have masculine accents. This new version of the brogues has a spool heel for a more feminine look.

Since 1894, Massaro has been creating exceptional footwear. Today, the House is one of the CHANEL Maisons d'art. Joana Preiss sat down with Jean-Étienne Prach, Massaro's artistic director, to discuss the age-old skills of their artisans passed down through the years in their ateliers. They also discussed the collective work of the Maisons d'art in the creation of unique designs, such as the oxford shoes in the Paris-Hamburg show, which were produced after Karl Lagerfeld's drawings in collaboration with Maison Desrues.

Aska Yamashita, artistic director of the embroidery atelier Montex founded in 1939, is Joana Preiss' guest in the latest series of podcasts. They discussed the history of the House, whose exceptional heritage of fine craft techniques can be drawn upon to create unique embroidery work. Aska Yamashita also talked about the creative dialogue between the CHANEL studio and Montex, which enables the continuous innovation to achieve such technical feats as the use of Rhodoïd strips to suggest the freight containers on the docks of Hamburg in the Paris-Hamburg 2017/18 collection.
