SPRING-SUMMER ESSENTIALS

Transparency, underlying theme of the Spring-Summer 2018 collection, can be seen in a large scope of looks this season. Special effects created by the fabrics are harmoniously combined to the mineral textures of the silhouettes that together deliver a play of light and water.

The collection is available in boutiques and on chanel.com

GABRIELLE CHANEL
& SERGE LIFAR

A striking vintage print from Gabrielle Chanel's private collection inspired the new eyewear campaign. In 1937, Mademoiselle dedicated this photograph to Serge Lifar, as a token of their lasting friendship. She met the principal dancer of the Ballets Russes in 1924, during production of the ballet Le Train Bleu. Their common artistic interests emerged at a time when hierarchies in the arts were becoming blurred and the creative scene was flourishing. They were both in the modernist vanguard, and appear side by side in this image, their androgynous figures forming a two-tone symmetry of black and white. In pose and setting, this intimate image creates the illusion of a light-drenched beach setting, in a harmonious composition of form and line. The model Adwoa Aboah embodies this sunny modernism.
