Ambassadors and friends of the House were brought together at the Grand Palais in Paris for the Spring-Summer 2020 show, presented against the backdrop of Parisian rooftop architecture. Afterwards, guests were asked to share their impressions of the new collection by Virginie Viard.
A graceful silhouette, as if sculpted from multi-layered silk embroidered with plumes of sequins, brings the Spring-Summer 2020 show to a memorable close. Embodying the expertise of the ateliers, this look, comprising of a blouse sporting CHANEL’s sparkling double C and a fringed skirt made of silvery relief fabric, provides a glittering finale to the show.
With its eyes firmly set on Paris, the Spring-Summer 2020 collection reveals architectural motifs drawn in white, representing the city’s emblematic rooftops, facades and balconies. These prints emblazon long sculptural dresses with fringes made of tulle, raffia, muslin and grosgrain, with red painted chimneys providing the only flash of vivid colour. The prints echo the Paris of artists and give the dresses a distinctly urban feel.
Gathered tops, pleated blouses and light dresses feature balloon sleeves puffed up with countless bows and flounces embroidered with raffia strands and organza petals. This highly refined shoulder shape enhances the silhouette and reflects the unparalleled expertise of the Rue Cambon ateliers.
Making their way across the Paris rooftops using walkways and small flights of steps, the models appear wearing mini-shorts made of very fine jersey, belted with stone-set chains. They are worn with black legging-like tights, giving a dynamic look that is counterbalanced by sandals and tops scattered with metallic sequins.
Cascades of flounces, a sophisticated detail of the Spring-Summer 2020 collection, set off collars and cuffs and give them a lighter-than-air feel. Long, diaphanous midnight blue dresses have flounced collars and shirred cuffs, sometimes accented by delicate cuff bracelets. White blouses in fine knit have smocked lower sleeves extending into roundelays of sculpted broderie anglaise flounces.
Pale pink echoing the pearly grey of Paris’ zinc-clad rooftops makes its appearance in the Spring-Summer 2020 collection. It is seen in silk pleated flounces, tulle braids, feathered plumes and delicately tiered raffia on tank tops and long skirts wafting gracefully as the models pass by. Metallic on shorts, more vivid on tweed pieces, and powdery on satin skirts, this pink comes in a range of subtle variants that illuminate the collection.
Made from satin, a smooth, glossy material, this season’s skirts are high-waisted. Short circle skirts, skater skirts with rounded pleats and wraparound balloon skirts are delicately ruched to increase their volume and movement. They create a rounded outline set off by a waistline accented with a double boutonnière or highlighted with a belt.
