TRANSPARENCY AT PLAY

Transparency, the collection's guiding thread, features everywhere from hats to boots, fingerless gloves, and accessories. Models wear transparent boaters and fringed hoods on their heads while thigh boots with crystalline heels show off their legs. Vinyl simultaneously hides and reveals each look and each texture, like the bags covered in transparent film like a protective sheath. The models' hair is held in place by long plastic cylinders and their hands are slipped into long clear gloves that cover their forearms.

IRIDESCENT FRINGES

Reminiscent of the Charleston frocks of the 1920s, the fringed tunic shimmers with iridescent reflections and a kaleidoscope of colours. The silk threads matching the mother-of-pearl beads of the long necklaces and the opalescent tweed of the suits move. The overlayered, stepped fringes reveal a broad palette of pastels from coral pink to aqua and lagoon blue. The shimmering ivory casts a reflection on the brim of the transparent boaters.

THE SUIT OF THE SPRING-SUMMER 2018

Broad shoulders, a nipped-in waist, and sharp lines: the suit of the Spring-Summer 2018 collection reveals a new silhouette. The iridescent ivory tweed jacket and skirt are trimmed with twisted braid. The structured jacket with a mandarin collar offers a clean, pared-down look. The fastenings are invisible, the pockets discreet, and the play of seams subtle: Karl Lagerfeld has stripped back the ornamentation to foreground the lines of the garment. The slightly flared three-quarter-length sleeves show off the stacked bracelets. The hem of the skirt falls halfway down the thigh, skimming the top of the transparent thigh boots.

SCENOGRAPHY

In a landscape of rocks and water imagined by Karl Lagerfeld, the sound of a waterfall resonates under the glass roof of the Grand Palais for the Spring-Summer 2018 Ready-to-Wear collection.
