FROM HAMBURG TO MOSCOW

The 2017/18 Métiers d’art collection, unveiled in Hamburg’s port last December, has been showcased in the Russian capital yesterday night.

Caps, sailor striped tops, peacoats and drop-front trousers: the Métiers d’art collection celebrates the exceptional savoir-faire of CHANEL’s Maisons d’art and is inspired by elements of a marine wardrobe.

'YOU ARE FAUST' EXHIBITION
KUNSTHALLE MUSEUM IN MUNICH

The 'You Are Faust' exhibition at the Kunsthalle museum in Munich invites visitors to identify with the characters in Goethe's famous play, and to let Faust, Mephistopheles, and Marguerite guide them through this literary work that marked the 19th century. Over the last two centuries, artists worldwide have produced work inspired by 'Faust', from Eugène Delacroix to Charles Gounod, Max Beckmann, Sigmar Polke, Martin Scorsese, Anselm Kiefer, Robert Mapplethorpe, Peter Stein and Karl Lagerfeld. Photographs of Claudia Schiffer from a photo-novella were taken by CHANEL's artistic director and are on display.

1967 — THE FIRST SHOW
IN MOSCOW

In September 1967, Gabrielle Chanel presented her Fall-Winter Haute Couture collection at the Luzhniki Palace of Sports in Moscow, Russia. This is one of the first times her designs were unveiled outside of the salons at rue Cambon. She said of the event: 'I have only ever had one ambition in my life: to take my designs into the street. And now here they are on Red Square in Moscow.'

More than fifty years later, CHANEL returns to Moscow for the presentation of the Paris-Hamburg 2017/18 Métiers d’art collection.
