Chapter 3

SCROLL TO EXPLORE

90 years after the debut of the first High Jewellery collection, the CHANEL Fine Jewellery Creation Studio draws inspiration from the timeless Bijoux de Diamants pieces to tell a new tale.

Chapter 3 1932, A NEW TALE

EXPLORING THE SKY’S LIMITS

“I wanted to return to the essence of 1932 and summarise the message in three symbols: the star, the moon and the sun. Each star shines with its own light.”

1932 represents a journey beyond time and space, where the movement of the planets and the kinetics of the stars are observed. From the original collection, Patrice Leguéreau, Director of the CHANEL Fine Jewellery Creation Studio, preserves the celestial theme, the purity of the lines and the freedom of the body. The perfect roundness of the diamonds gives the symbols a sense of eternity, enhanced by rays of light that make them sparkle.

1932 draws a new map of the sky. With the star, icon of CHANEL Fine Jewellery since the creation of this open necklace that follows the contours of the neck and opens at the bust. Circular swirls and shooting comets create the effect of an endless race. A heavenly body adorning a single creation in Bijoux de Diamants, the moon becomes an icon in its own right in the 1932 collection. The original crescent now rises and shines like a dazzling halo. And of course, the power of the sun radiates with a clear and striking force.

THE POWER OF BEAUTY

By revisiting the past to anticipate the future, the CHANEL Fine Jewellery Creation Studio invents living jewellery, in sync with the rhythm of the body’s movements. 77 spectacular creations, 13 of them transformable, wrap around and lie divinely on the skin. Starry spirals endlessly weave in and out of each other and encircle the wrist. With every breath and heartbeat, the sun glows at the base of the neck. By wearing the pieces however they desire, women are able to create their own constellations, adorning themselves in a unique way.

Sapphires as blue as night, fiery golden-yellow and intense blue diamonds, opals as colourful as galaxies, vibrant red rubies, spinels as bright as dawn, sky blue tanzanites... While the original collection consisted almost entirely diamonds—a concentration of pure light—1932 honours coloured stones.

90 years later, a new manifesto

1932 COLLECTION: THE STARS ALIGNED

In 1932, Gabrielle Chanel created the first High Jewellery collection in history, BIJOUX DE DIAMANTS. Inspired by the allure of the stars, it was designed to be worn freely in a brand-new way.

Mademoiselle then turned her concept of jewellery in motion–part of her vision for women–into a manifesto, which was written by Jean Cocteau. In 2022, CHANEL High Jewellery celebrates this celestial revolution by launching the 1932 collection, based on the perpetual motion of the stars and tailored to the natural movements of the body. In the same spirit, CHANEL asked an author known for his reflections on movement to write a manifesto for the new collection.
