Ho Tzu Nyen

Ho Tzu Nyen (født og bosiddende i Singapore) arbejder med animation, video, performance og installation. Han tilegner sig og genskaber myter og historier for at stille spørgsmålstegn ved de måder, som virkeligheden og historien er indrammet på.

Meget af hans arbejde er relateret til Singapore, en tidligere britisk koloni, som nu er en multikulturel østat. I forlængelse af Singapore er Ho begyndt at inkorporere myter og historier fra andre kulturer i Øst- og Sydøstasien i sin praksis.

“Den næste fase i min kunstneriske praksis er ukendt,” siger han. “Men jeg glæder mig til at dykke ned i den med den øgede kapacitet, som denne pris har gjort mulig.”

Ho repræsenterede Singapore på den 54. udgave af Venedig Biennalen, og han har haft soloudstillinger på Toyota Municipal Museum of Art i Japan (2021), Yamaguchi Centre for Arts and Media i Japan (2021), Kunstverein Hamburg i Tyskland (2018), Guggenheim Museum i Bilbao i Spanien (2015) og Mori Art Museum i Tokyo (2012).

En oversigtsudstilling med titlen Ho Tzu Nyen: Time & the Tiger, der spænder over to årtier af hans arbejde, åbnede på Singapore Art Museum i 2023. Udstillingen turnerer i år til Art Sonje Center i Seoul og Hessel Museum of Art i New York, inden den rejser videre til Mudam Contemporary Art Museum i Luxembourg i 2025. Han har også en soloudstilling med titlen A for Agents, som åbner på Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo i april 2024.

“CHANEL Next Prize har styrket mig,” siger han. “Den har motiveret mig til at strække mig og gøre det næste skridt større.”
