Ho Tzu Nyen

Ho Tzu Nyen (geboren und wohnhaft in Singapur) ist im Bereich Animationen, Videoarbeiten, Performance und Installationen tätig. Dabei macht er sich Mythen und Geschichten zu eigen, die er neu verfasst, um die Art und Weise zu hinterfragen, wie Realität und Geschichte entworfen werden.
Ein Großteil seiner Arbeit bezieht sich auf Singapur, eine ehemalige britische Kolonie, die heute ein multikultureller Inselstaat ist. Über Singapur hinaus hat Ho zudem damit begonnen, Mythen und Geschichten von anderen Kulturen in Südostasien und Ostasien aufzugreifen.
„Es ist noch nicht klar, wie sich die nächste Phase meines künstlerischen Schaffens gestalten wird“, sagt er. „Doch freue ich mich, dass ich mich dieser neuen Schaffensphase dank des Preises voll und ganz widmen kann.“
Ho vertrat Singapur bei der 54. Ausgabe der Biennale von Venedig. In Einzelausstellungen waren seine Arbeiten im Toyota Municipal Museum of Art, Japan (2021), im Yamaguchi Centre for Arts and Media, Japan (2021), im Kunstverein Hamburg (2018), im Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spanien (2015) und im Mori Art Museum, Tokio (2012) zu sehen.
2023 wurde im Singapore Art Museum die Werkschau namens Ho Tzu Nyen: Time & the Tiger eröffnet, die Arbeiten aus zwei Jahrzehnten seines Schaffens zeigt. Die Ausstellung wird in diesem Jahr im Art Sonje Center in Seoul und im Hessel Museum of Art in New York gastieren, bevor sie 2025 im Mudam Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst in Luxemburg Station machen wird. Seine Einzelausstellung namens A for Agents wird im April 2024 im Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst Tokio eröffnet.
„Der CHANEL Next Prize hat mich bestärkt“, sagt er. „Diese Auszeichnung hat mich ermutigt, meine Flügel auszubreiten und den nächsten Schritt zu wagen.“
