Ho Tzu Nyen

Ho Tzu Nyen (nato a Singapore, dove vive e lavora) opera al crocevia tra animazione, video, performance e installazioni. Facendoli propri, rielabora miti e storie per interrogarsi sulle modalità attraverso cui realtà e storia vengono formulate.
Buona parte del suo lavoro è legata a Singapore, ex colonia britannica attualmente stato insulare multiculturale. Estendendosi oltre i confini dell’isola, tuttavia, la pratica artistica di Ho ha cominciato a integrare miti e storie provenienti da altre culture del Sud-est asiatico e dell’Asia orientale.
“Non so ancora dove mi porterà il mio percorso artistico, quale sarà la prossima tappa”, spiega. “Ma sono felice di approfondirlo grazie alle maggiori possibilità offerte da questo premio”.
Ho ha rappresentato Singapore alla 54a edizione della Biennale di Venezia, e ha tenuto mostre personali al Toyota Municipal Museum of Art in Giappone (2021), lo Yamaguchi Centre for Arts and Media, sempre in Giappone (2021), il Kunstverein Hamburg in Germania (2018), il Museo Guggenheim di Bilbao in Spagna (2015) e il Mori Art Museum di Tokyo (2012).
Una mostra antologica dal titolo Ho Tzu Nyen: Time & the Tiger, che abbraccia due decenni del suo lavoro, è stata inaugurata al Singapore Art Museum nel 2023. L’esposizione approderà quest’anno all’Art Sonje Center di Seul e all’Hessel Museum of Art di New York, prima di giungere al Mudam Contemporary Art Museum del Lussemburgo nel 2025. Nell’aprile 2024 si svolgerà anche una personale intitolata A for Agents al Museum of Contemporary Art di Tokyo.
“CHANEL Next Prize mi ha reso più forte”, ammette. “Mi ha incoraggiato ad allungare il passo verso la mia prossima tappa”.
