our ambition enablerCollective Action within and Beyond

In reaching for our Ambition, we are enabled by collective action within and beyond our House. By engaging our people and supporting those around us with the freedom, tools, resources and shared knowledge we can help inspire long-term change.

Our progress

Global Sustainability Academy

We approach the future with curiosity and confidence, with the belief that truly sustainable transformation can only be achieved through a shared understanding of the evolving landscape, its challenges, and the opportunities for change.

Over the past few years, we have launched and grown our Global Sustainability Academy, a learning initiative designed to equip our people with a sustainability mindset, and the relevant knowledge and skills, to be agents of change in our sustainability transformation.

Chanel’s partnership with the University of Cambridge is a flagship initiative of the Sustainability Academy. This partnership is dedicated to building sustainability skills and knowledge, innovation and providing support to emerging leaders. Through bespoke executive education programmes, over 500 people including leaders, senior managers and key operational teams have been upskilled on topics that they can take back to their wider teams, enabling more sustainable decision-making across the business. We also continue to provide a bursary to support students in the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) Master’s programme.

Alongside our education programmes, Fashion teams worked in partnership with Cambridge’s Institute of Manufacturing to roll out a manufacturing excellence programme with various supply chain partners in Italy and France. The programme focuses on driving efficiency at the manufacturing site level in relation to both material and energy use.

Working in collaboration

Our collective impact is strengthened by working with partners and suppliers to develop the thinking and solutions we all need to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable world.

Chanel continues to collaborate with and support world-leading institutions and organisations such as the University of Cambridge, RE100, The Fashion Pact and the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030 to advance progress.

We also collaborate with scientists and academic institutions to explore areas of research which could hold the key to future climate solutions. We have previously partnered with École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in the funding of a research chair to better understand the links between the carbon cycle and climate change in oceans through three key pillars: prediction, mitigation and adaptation.

The relationships we form with research institutions can help spark transformative change at a time when breakthroughs must come.
