Promoting the Autonomy of Women

Chanel was founded by Gabrielle Chanel, who reimagined creations for women and shaped her own destiny.

Most of our clients and our people are women, and today, women remain at the heart of everything we do. Ensuring that women have an equal voice and are safe to make the choices they want to in life is deeply rooted in our heritage and our future.

Our goal is to support the self-determination of women, advancing the positive impact that gender equality brings to the world. We aim to achieve this with our own business, as well as across wider society.

Our progress

Within our House

Women represent a majority of our global workforce and over 60% of leadership and management positions, including our CEO. We believe that advancing the impact that gender equality can bring to the world begins within our own House.

This extends to the training offering and career development programmes we offer to employees, as well as setting the highest standards for pay equity.

We remain committed to supporting the conditions for everyone to be their full selves, through access to fair and equitable opportunities, as well as pay policies and practices designed to ensure fair and equal treatment of our people.

Promoting Science Technology Engineering and Maths (STEM) education and women in tech through partnership with University College London

Chanel embraces the opportunity that technology brings, including through partnerships with universities and academic institutions. In the UK, a primary vision of our partnership with University College London (UCL) is to provide more women with opportunities in the technology sector. In 2024, this included mentoring sessions with young women studying at UCL, providing insight to inform technology projects with teams of UCL students, and advancing research on women in technology leadership.

Beyond our House through Fondation CHANEL

Fondation Chanel’s vision is for a world where women and girls are free to shape their own destiny. Founded by Chanel in 2011, the Foundation supports and funds a wide range of partners globally that work with women and girls across the areas of safety, economic and social autonomy, and climate resilience. Building on the House’s strong legacy of supporting women and girls, Chanel continues its commitment to the independent foundation with funding of USD $125 million a year. As of 2024, Fondation CHANEL provides grants to over 250 partners in more than 60 countries.
