Premiered in Paris in 2020, ‘Gabrielle Chanel. Fashion Manifesto’ makes its international debut in Melbourne. The exhibition is presented by the National Gallery of Victoria in partnership with the Palais Galliera, city of Paris Fashion Museum and with the support of CHANEL.

Gabrielle Chanel introduced a language of modernity into fashion that still resonates today. She began to reform women’s wardrobes by creating a new code of dress that privileged comfort, function and elegance, and responded to the growing desire for greater social freedoms among women. This exhibition explores the designer's career trajectory and the birth and evolution of her style.

“The inspiration of the work and the developing sensibility that the exhibition shows is a sort of masterclass in how a creative mind develops over those many decades.”
