"I almost fainted with happiness the first time I saw a Coromandel screen," Gabrielle Chanel confessed. Coromandel lacquer screens are decorated with finely engraved Asian flowers. Captivated by their elegance, Mademoiselle Chanel covered her walls in Paris with them, imbuing the classic charm of her apartments with a delightful touch of poetic inspiration.
