CHANEL Watches was awarded at the 13th ceremony of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) for the MADEMOISELLE PRIVÉ watch with a "Camélia brodé" dial which was elected best in the "Artistic crafts watch" category.

Since 1924, the House of Lesage has been producing highly elaborate embroidery for the major names in Haute Couture and Ready-to-Wear, requiring long hours of work and a unique "savoir-faire." For the first time, the expertise of Lesage has been applied towards the creation of a watch dial. Each embroidery created is one of a kind. Expressing the gestures of the embroiderer throughout the meticulous process, such is this camellia, Gabrielle Chanel's favorite flower, produced with colored silk threads using the needlepoint-painting technique.

The Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix (GPHG) is intended to salute the excellence of worldwide horological production, and annually rewards the finest creations and the most important operators in the watchmaking sector. The GPHG prize giving ceremony, which is traditionally held each November at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, draws elite representatives of the international watchmaking profession.

The House of CHANEL is honored by this prize, which salutes the collaboration between the different exceptional "savoir-faire" that have always been at the heart of its creative process.

JEWELRY BY CHANEL - PATRICK MAURIÈS

Gabrielle Chanel was a woman of striking contrasts. At times, she expressed her playful and extravagant side, inspired by the sumptuously baroque style of gilt wood and stunning lacquered finishes, rococo mirrors and opulent jewelry. At other times, she practiced strict minimalism, designing severe suits and the little black dress, all within the rigorous code of black and white.

The jewelry that Gabrielle Chanel created throughout her life captured this fusion of the austere and the ostentatious. In addition, or perhaps in contrast, to the costume jewelry that she introduced to the world, she also designed fine jewelry creations, giving free reign to her imagination to devise sophisticated, exceptionally precious pieces.

Through archival images, interviews and never-before-seen documents, this book is the first to explore an intriguing facet of Gabrielle Chanel: her singular passion for jewelry. In her view, jewelry should be appreciated "with innocence, with naivety, like enjoying an apple tree in blossom along the road as we speed by in a car."

THE MADEMOISELLE PRIVÉ FILM

The name of this watch collection has a very particular significance, both feminine and exclusive. In fact, MADEMOISELLE PRIVÉ first appeared on the door of Gabrielle Chanel’s studio on rue Cambon in Paris.

Mademoiselle Chanel loved the delicate elegance and subtle milky color of the camellia, making it her favorite flower. Often reinvented, always unique, the camellia lends its curves to the most daring designs. In the MADEMOISELLE PRIVÉ collection, the camellia is made from inlaid mother-of-pearl, a material that gloriously recreates the velvet softness of the flower’s petals.

CHANEL PRESENTS THE PREMIERE FLYING TOURBILLON AT THE BASELWORLD WATCHMAKING EXHIBITION

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Première watch, whose shape was inspired by the octagonal geometry of Place Vendôme and echoed in the N°5 perfume bottle stopper, Chanel offers women the opportunity to enter into the realm of high mechanical complications.

Chanel designed its first Tourbillon for the J12 watch in 2005 and in 2012, Chanel presents a flying Tourbillon on a Première watch model. This exceptional tourbillon, developed in close collaboration between Chanel and the Swiss manufacturers, engineers and master watchmakers of Renaud et Papi (APRP SA) - the center of advanced research and development for Audemars Piguet - is a first for both companies.
The Flying Tourbillon, in the form of a stylized camellia, Mademoiselle Chanel's favorite flower, performs one rotation per minute with the petals indicating the passing of the seconds.
Equipped with a power reserve of 40 hours, the movement has been mounted on a custom-designed rectangular bottom plate. All the finishes and parts that are chamfered, drawn and circular-grained by hand adhere to to the highest Swiss watchmaking traditions.

The case, the bezel and the crown are entirely set with baguette-cut or round diamonds or precious stones. Produced in a limited edition of 20 numbered pieces, the Première Flying Tourbillon watch in 18K white gold is set with 101 baguette-cut diamonds for a total of 5.7 carats, and 127 brilliant-cut diamonds for a total of 2 carats. Each piece requires 23 hours of setting work and over one hundred hours of assembly work.
