Polishing returns your precious metal piece of jewellery close to its original brilliance.
In case of loss or deterioration of one of your stones/pearls, CHANEL recommends a stone/pearl replacement service in order to return your piece of jewellery to its original beauty.
All the clasps of CHANEL Jewellery’s pieces are made of gold. As gold is a soft metal, it naturally wears over time. A clasp replacement or adjustment is recommended when it is showing signs of wear or damage.
The silk thread of your CHANEL Fine Jewellery piece can become slack under the weight of pearls or because of various chemical agents (cosmetics, perfume…).
A pearl re-stringing is recommended every year in order to preserve the condition of your piece of jewellery.
Re-sizing is a difficult operation which requires great know-how and a deep study of the piece. This intervention is not possible on every piece of jewellery and is dependent on the model design. It is recommended to limit the number of times the same model is resized.
Re-sizing operations vary from one piece of jewellery to another and will be subject to a specific examination. For a ring re-sizing, operations will be the following:
It is possible to personalise a piece of jewellery by engraving a name or a message on the precious metal. This intervention is not possible on every piece and depends on the available surface area.
Each piece of jewellery is carefully cleaned with soft brushes and specially adapted tools. If the nature of the stone allows, the CHANEL jewellery workshops will use ultrasound waves to clean the less accessible parts.
*Certain stones such as emeralds, tanzanites and pearls are excluded, as they are too delicate for ultrasound waves.
Jewellers carefully study each piece of jewellery in order to determine which intervention should be carried out.
Different techniques exist regarding the re-sizing of CHANEL Fine Jewellery pieces. Sales associates are at your disposal to give you advice and recommend the most adapted technique.
After being carefully cleaned, pearls are strung one by one on a new silk thread.
For most of its creations, CHANEL Fine Jewellery will use the knot stringing method. This technique limits friction between pearls and keeps them from being lost if the silk thread breaks
At each intervention, all the gem settings on the piece of jewellery are meticulously examined. Every damaged setting is replaced in order to avoid losing a stone.
Every white gold piece of jewellery is covered by a thin layer of rhodium to perfect the finishing and enhance its brilliance. This layer of rhodium is removed by means of polishing. Polishing is a technique also used for gold and platinum pieces of jewellery in order to reduce scratches. Polishers use brushes and rollers soaked with polishing paste (clay grains), used one after the other to obtain a perfectly polished finish. Due to polishing, a slight layer of material is removed.
Thus, it is a delicate operation that requires a specific know how. Successive polishing can alter the surface condition and edges of your piece of jewellery. We recommend that you do not request this service frequently (a maximum of 3 times during the course of its life is recommended).
After having removed the old layer of rhodium, the piece of jewellery is immersed in a rhodium-bath resulting in a new layer that will revive the brilliance and whiteness of white gold.
Before leaving the workshop, your piece of jewellery is carefully examined to ensure it meets the CHANEL Fine Jewellery high quality standards.
